Message from the President

Together, Making Life Better

Shin Kong Mitsukoshi President

Richard H. Wu

In 2024, society faced unprecedented challenges across environmental, social, and geopolitical dimensions. The increasing frequency of extreme weather events intensified discussions around environmental and energy issues. Geopolitical instability, shifting tariff policies, inflation, and interest rate adjustments all tested global market confidence. On the social front, greater attention was directed toward issues of diversity, inclusion, and equity. Despite the rapidly evolving external landscape, we have remained committed to our core operating principles, continuously strengthening the company’s resilience and long-term sustainability.

Last year, thanks to the collective efforts of our colleagues and partners, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi’s annual revenue surpassed NT$95.6 billion, reflecting a steady growth trajectory. Our membership base also exceeded 4.06 million, with member purchases reaching NT$79.8 billion—accounting for over 84% of total sales. These accomplishments are a testament to the long-term trust we’ve built with our customers. We extend our heartfelt thanks to every customer, partner, and team member who continues to support Shin Kong Mitsukoshi.

In response to the rapidly evolving competitive landscape of the retail industry, we continued to enhance our brand and product offerings, implementing over 1,000 updates to brands, counters, and retail spaces throughout the year. With 15 stores and 20 buildings across Taiwan, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi welcomes over 120 million visits annually. We are committed to providing customers with diverse lifestyle options and experiences, positioning ourselves as both a curator and enabler of better living.

Arts and culture have long been a core focus for Shin Kong Mitsukoshi. In 2024, we hosted over 200 cultural events spanning photography, crafts, painting, music, and traditional performances. A major highlight was our first collaboration with renowned artist Mika Ninagawa for the special exhibition Eternal in a Moment. By merging technology with aesthetic expression, the exhibition transformed the retail space into an innovative crossroads of life and culture.

We also proactively advanced our digital transformation by enhancing platforms such as the skm app, skm online, and skm eats. Leveraging an OMO (Online-Merge-Offline) omnichannel strategy, we integrated resources from 13 business sectors to build the Lifestyle ecosystem encompassing food, clothing, housing, mobility, education, and entertainment.

Our sustainability efforts in 2024 extended beyond digitalization and eco-friendly giveaway initiatives, such as beach cleanup events that engaged northern branch participation to promote plastic reduction and environmental awareness. We also obtained ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certifications for information security and personal data protection, reinforcing our data governance foundation. Meanwhile, the Food Safety 2.0 program continued to evolve, with enhanced management systems ensuring customer health and safety.

Looking ahead, we are preparing to open our 16th store—Tainan XiaoBeiMen—with its grand opening anticipated in 2025. This new branch will bring fresh momentum to the department store landscape in southern Taiwan. We remain committed to expanding our presence, driving innovation, actively engaging with our members, and collaborating with stakeholders to build a sustainable future through our four core sustainability pillars: Safety and Trust, Shared Happiness, Green Environment, and Arts and Culture

In light of the unexpected incident, we are taking a prudent approach to reviewing risk management practices, welcoming feedback from all stakeholders to reassess and strengthen our internal systems and procedures. Our goal is to enhance risk prevention and mitigation and embed these practices into our day-to-day operations.

We believe the true value of a company lies not only in its ability to generate economic benefits, but also in the positive impact it creates for society and the environment. We envision Shin Kong Mitsukoshi as more than just a department store—it is a starting point for meaningful connections between people, society, and nature.

We will continue to work diligently, embrace innovation, and stay rooted in our communities, delivering new experiences, new shopping styles, and a renewed vision for a more sustainable lifestyle. Together, Making Life Better!
