Sustainable Brands

SKM continues to introduce brands that value sustainable consumption. In 2023, the Company introduced 35 sustainable brands, ranging from Luxuries, Beauty, Women's Accessories, Lingerie, Women's Apparel, Leisure and Lifestyle, Men's Goods, Kid's Goods, Home, Supermarket, Food and Beverage (F&B), and Mixed-Use to the department stores.

Brand Actions for Sustainability

ORIGINS Pop-Up Base for the Environment

In 2022, ORIGINS organized the first-ever pop-up base for the environment at SKM Taipei Xinyi Place A11. With sustainability as its core concept, the pop-up combines the online virtual space to create an immersive, stress-free green store that uses online checkouts to reduce packaging materials and waste.

Execution outcome: 101 Earth Month-limited sets were sold with a revenue of NT$363,600 (gross of tax). 10% of the net profit (NT$36,360) was donated to Tse-Xin Organic Agriculture Foundation to sponsor tree-planting initiatives at the coasts of Northern Taiwan, Media exposure including coverage from ELLE, BAZAAR SUMMIT, YAHOO News, chinatimes.com, @COSME, Commercial Times, and CommonWealth Magazine.

Aesop Library and Mobile Book Cart for Queer Literature

Aesop Library for Queer Literature occurred at Aesop SKM Taichung Zhonggang Store in 2022. Aesop procured book collections from independent bookstores - Pure Books in Taipei and Paper Books in Taichung. During the campaign, the brand replaced the displayed products with books containing LGBTQIA+ themes, welcoming book lovers to explore in-store.

Wacoal Pink Ribbon Mammography Campaign

  • Mobile Mammography Van touring across Taiwan, where citizens can all get a free mammogram.

  • Since Wacoal founded the Social Service Department in 1993, the company has been dedicated to breast cancer prevention. Since 2005, the company has organized annual pink ribbon campaigns across Taiwan. Since September 17, 2023, during the pink ribbon campaign, Wacoal has set up Mobile Mammography Vans in front of specific SKM department stores (including the Tainan Ximen Store). Customers participating in the campaign activities would be guided through a mammogram examination, realizing the "after-care" and "before-care" for breast cancer.

  • October is International Breast Cancer Prevention Month. Wacoal launches pink ribbon campaigns during the month. For customers at the counter trying on bras and placing a pink ball in the pink ribbon box, NT$5 for each purchase will be donated to the breast cancer prevention fund.

  • Performance: In October 2024, 45,800 people tried on bras, and the donation amounted to NT$229,000.

L'Oréal Taiwan CircuLove Project

  • L'ORÉAL Taiwan has laid the brand's roots in Taiwan for over three decades. L'Oréal Taiwan has actively reduced waste and launched a regular recycling campaign in 2022 to fulfill the commitment to ensuring beauty is sustainable. The CircuLove Project has L'Oréal Taiwan's nine major brands and three main distribution channels (including eight brands and 69 counters at SKM stores) that join forces in collecting and recycling empty containers of beauty products. The various materials are recycled through L'Oréal Taiwan's comprehensive recycling pathway, giving the containers a second life and allowing the resources to be reused. The Project aims to affect social good with beauty.

  • Performance:350,000 empty bottles were collected across Taiwan. As of 2023, the PET packaging of 85% of L'Oréal Taiwan products was made with recycled plastic. 100% recycling of SKM's acrylic counter display. New shelves are also made with recycled acrylic.

Nespresso Capsule Recycling Campaign

  • Nespresso launched a membership passport at counters across Taiwan, encouraging customers to collect points upon recycling the capsule. Customers can win items made of recycled aluminum or other prizes, such as hotel vouchers and coffee machines/capsules, whenever they recycle capsules.

  • Performance: the capsules recycled by SKM key customers accounted for 40% of all recycling.

Sustainable gifts and benefits

Sporty Fashion Points Redemption

  • From July 13 to September 24, 2023, SKM launched its first sports-themed points redemption campaign, working with a local Taiwan cork yoga brand, MATA. The brand's cork yoga mats and other products use EU-certified eco-friendly materials and cork from Portugal. No trees were felled for harvesting cork, and all products are made in Taiwan. The points redemption campaign gives away seven yoga props, including the MATA cork yoga mat and Mini fascial gun. In total, almost a thousand items were redeemed.

  • During the same period, SKM organized a special campaign across northern, central, and southern Taiwan—SELF LOVE Summer Yoga Season—inviting members to participate in yoga events. Between August 20 and September 24, seven yoga events took place with over a hundred participants, raising awareness of health.

 

Cosmetics Festival campaign - Loving Earth More Empty Bottle Recycling

  • During the 2023 Cosmetics Festival campaign, SKM joined 15 cosmetics brands to launch the Loving Earth More empty bottle recycling program from July 21 to August 31, responding to the ESG trend. During the campaign, customers bringing empty bottles of brands including GIORGIO ARMANI, KIEHL’S, ORIGINS, BIOTHERM, IPSA, KOSE, and APIVITA, to SKM counters across Taiwan can enjoy a discount purchasing new products, brand gifts, and 100 SKM POINTS. Customers also have a chance to win DRUNK ELEPHANT products worth over NT$ 5,000.

  • SKM issued over 10,000 SKM POINTS during the campaign and collected over 100 empty bottles. The brands would reuse the empty bottles, contributing to the environment. The campaign called upon SKM members to show their love for the Earth while pursuing beauty.
