This Summer/Whose" Touring Exhibition

Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, upholding the belief that art originates from life and embracing the spirit of caring for humanity and the land, initiated the "This Summer" Touring Exhibition in 2011. The exhibition aims to gather Taiwanese artists from different backgrounds to tell stories about Taiwan and spread the warmth of this land to the world. It endeavors to interpret the beauty of contemporary culture by incorporating various perspectives and themes, adhering to the principles of co-creation, sharing, and mutual benefit, and integrating culture into everyday life.

Over the past 14 years, the series has evolved from "This Summer Has a Drama," "This Summer, Plays Guitar," "This Summer, Plays with Dolls," "This Summer, Loves Circus," "This Summer, We Rock" to the 25th anniversary of SKM's "What to Play This Summer,"and in 2017-2018 "The Summer Carnival of the Animals" , "This Summer Have Fun with Woods." It further resonated with the audience with the resounding success of "Who Cut the Onion," which extended from 2020 to 2022,followed by "Whose Paper Dolls" in 2023, "Whose playing hide-and-seek" in 2024 ,"Who’s at the Amusement Park".Each May, these exhibitions are showcased at SKM department stores throughout Northern, Central, and Southern Taiwan. To date, more than 500 groups of visual artists, performing artists, and lifestyle creators from Taiwan have participated, accompanying over 5 million consumers through the summer.

In 2025, the "Who’s at the Amusement Park" touring exhibition featured the artist brand Maruco Art Studio and an amusement park theme designed to appeal to visitors of all ages. The exhibition featured nine themed zones filled with interactive activities and photo opportunities. In addition to more than 100 original artworks and pieces from the artist’s collection, the exhibition offered art workshops, journaling and stamp-collecting activities, as well as members-only wearable art and hands-on activities. These experiences were designed to make the exhibition more engaging, build a positive connection with the touring series, and encourage a broader audience to participate in arts and cultural activities.

Year of the Snake Art Installation Exhibition

To celebrate the Year of the Snake in 2025, SKM combined the auspicious symbolism of the Chinese zodiac with playful design, inviting renowned Taiwanese artist HOM, a recipient of the Golden Tripod Award for Best Illustration, to create an exclusive spatial art exhibition inspired by the Year of the Snake.

The exhibition featured nine large-scale art installations across Taipei Xinyi Place, Taichung Zhonggang Store, and Tainan Place. Blending festive installations with public art, the exhibition reinterpreted traditional Chinese zodiac culture through a contemporary artistic lens, creating an engaging Lunar New Year experience filled with festive symbolism. In addition, 100 miniature “Little Egg Snake” figures were displayed at SKM stores across Taiwan, bringing art into everyday spaces while promoting cultural heritage and making public art more accessible.

Xiaobeimen, Home to Great Artists

In 2025, SKM opened its new Tainan Xiaobeimen Store with art and contemporary culture at the heart of its identity, creating a new cultural destination where art, aesthetics, and everyday life come together. Its inaugural exhibition, THE NEXT FUTURE, featured six Taiwanese contemporary artists and eight works spanning painting, sculpture, and installation art, exploring the city’s development and contemporary urban life.

The exhibition drew on the collective memories of Tainan’s Xiaobei commercial district dating back to the 1980s, while also responding to growing interest in meaningful cultural experiences. By transforming a commercial space into a “museum you can experience,” the exhibition brought art into everyday life. The interplay between art and urban space connected local history with visions of the future, creating an experience for the local community shaped by aesthetics, cultural awareness, and sustainability. The store welcomed a total of 1.65 million visits during its opening period. As part of the exhibition, SKM also collaborated with Taiwanese artist Chang Teng-yuan on cultural promotion initiatives. The collaboration was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, which presented SKM with a certificate of appreciation.

Art Around the Corner Exhibition

To support emerging artists and promote arts and culture, SKM established the Corner Art exhibition space on the 3rd floor of Taipei Xinyi Place A11 in 2019. Since then, the space has hosted at least three to four curated exhibitions each year, providing artists from diverse backgrounds with opportunities to showcase their work.

In 2025, the space hosted eight exhibitions, including the Taiwan premiere of American pop artist Charles Fazzino’s 3D artwork, as well as solo exhibitions by seven Taiwanese illustrators, including Miss Tanghulu and CHiiZ BEAR. Each exhibition attracted an average of 3,000 visitors. Going forward, SKM will continue to explore cross-industry collaborations, limited-edition merchandise, online shopping channels, and digital promotion in line with its overall brand strategy. By bringing art and commerce closer together, SKM aims to create a sustainable platform that delivers both cultural and brand value.
