Together We Reduce Bags, Together We Cut Carbon

"Shopping Bag? No, Thanks!"

Environmental changes such as climate change, resource scarcity, and pollution have posed increasingly prominent impacts on countries, corporations, and even people's lives. As a platform for sustainability, SKM supports green environmental issues and hopes to "do something for planet Earth." As such, in November 2024, Taipei Nanxi Store pioneered the "Shopping Bag? No, Thanks!" program.

  • Performance: Between November and December of 2024, Taipei Nanxi Store reduced a total of 4,490 kg of carbon emissions (each paper shopping bag results
in around 90 grams of carbon emissions) across the whole store, decreasing the use of shopping bags by around 6%.

RE:ACTION (Green Lifestyle Event)

  • In September 2024, the Sustainability Committee approved the proposal. From September to December 2024, SKM started the design, investment attraction, and event planning process, with plans to host the RE:ACTION exhibit in 2025 at Taipei Xinyi Place and Tainan Place.
  • Curation Concept: Together, Making Life Better - Encouraging brands, customers, and regional revitalization vendors at SKM to participate in the circular economy by connecting curation, brands, and circular creation.
  • Exhibits: SKM invited vendors applicable to the 3Rs (Recycle/Reuse/Reduce).
  1. Sustainable Sellers: Eco-friendly cups, local sustainable products and package-free stores, green lifestyle products, and pet products aimed at reducing waste.
  2. Circular Recycling: Empty cosmetic bottles, recycled/repurposed clothes, renewed/redesigned agricultural/industrial waste, and recycling stations for empty
    bottles and secondhand clothes.
  3. Shared Services: Reduce individual purchase demands and promote shared services for secondhand transactions.
  4. Green Diet: Fruit & vegetable F&B, repurposing of "ugly produce," and eco-friendly agricultural products.

Earth Hour & Earthy Day

Earth Hour, initiated by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Sydney, Australia, is the world's largest voluntary carbon reduction action. Every year, on the last Saturday in March, from 20:30 to 21:30, corporations and people are encouraged to turn off excessive lights and other electronic devices for one hour to recognize climate change and other environmental issues. SKM and brand partners rise to the occasion, supporting the Earth Hour campaign to pay a fair share of protecting the planet.

Tainan Place: Earth Hour

Joined the global Earth Hour campaign on March 23, 2024, by turning off lights for one hour to support environmental
sustainability. Posted the event on Tainan Ximen Store’s Facebook page, reaching 637 likes and 47,878 people.

SKM Park: Earth Hour

On March 23, 2024, for Earth Hour, exterior wall LED strips and lightboxes were turned off for one hour. Result: Turned off 3,585 meters of exterior LED strips and 431 lightbox tubes, saving approximately 5.91 kW.
