In 2023123, SKM diversified its product exhibitions and events on sustainability, such as recommending select ESG products and promoting green products with lower environmental impact or contributing to public health. Furthermore, the Company continued its paperless and plastic reduction programs, raising the customers' awareness of sustainability and achieving sustainable consumption.
Supporting Earth Day and building a green economy
SKM and brand partners supported 2023 Earth Day (April 22) by launching a series of sustainability events that contributed to Earth conservation.
ORIGINS Earth Day Road Running

On April 21, right before Earth Day, ORIGINS held a road-running flash event at Xinyi District, Taipei, calling for people's attention to the environment and nature. Collaborating with Nike Run Club, the road running event invites participants to complete a tree-resembling route: using the road running app, participants map out a tree-resembling route and upload the map to their Facebook or Instagram pages with specific hashtags. For every upload, ORIGINS would plant one tree.

After running, the participants were given a scoop of ice cream made with all-natural ingredients. This serves as a reminder that "we only have one Earth; don't let it melt," calling for attention to global warming.

Performance:SKM provided the space at the southern gate of Taipei Xinyi Place A8 as the opening venue on April 21, 2023, and promoted the event the day before and on the day on SKM's FACEBOOK page.
Greenvines 21 Days of Green

Cohosted by Greenvines, Taiwan Environmental Information Association (TEIA), B Lab Taiwan, and Social Enterprise Insights, 21 Days of Green has been held seven years in a row and has become the largest Earth Day event in Taiwan. During the 2023 campaign (from March 30 to April 19), Greenvines invites netizens to take one simple "green" action a day for 21 days in total.

The green actions each year would be updated following the latest environmental trend, such as "write down the sustainability that you identify with" and "ask ChatGPT to present a story of circular materials" for day 1. Furthermore, the green actions may expand to daily green practices, advocating for sustainability across all industries. For example, one green action involves "exploring your sustainability literacy," which partners with Social Enterprise Insights. At the same time, another collaboration was made with FamiMart, whose "circular cup" rental service has been introduced to 400 stores across Taiwan.

Performance:During the 2023 campaign, participants completed 48,848 green actions in total.
2023 Earth Hour - Lights out for the Planet
Earth Hour, initiated by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Sydney, Australia, is the world's largest voluntary carbon reduction action. Every year, on the last Saturday in March, from 20:30 to 21:30, corporations and people are encouraged to turn off excessive lights and other electronic devices for one hour to recognize climate change and other environmental issues. SKM and brand partners rise to the occasion, supporting the Earth Hour campaign to pay a fair share of protecting the planet.

O’right's net-zero green HQ was the first to turn off the lights for Earth Hour, encouraging others to follow suit. To fulfill corporate social responsibility, the brand partners with leading convenience store franchise FamiMart, a co-advocate, and media partner Momo Shop.

Taiwan joins 192 other countries and over 18,000 international landmarks to switch the lights off. In Taiwan, it's estimated that over 539 companies, 6,762 chain stores, 3,684 salons, and more than a million people participated in the campaign. In particular, SKM Tainan Ximen Store and Chiayi Chuiyang Store also responded to the cause and turned off the facade lights for one hour. In 2023, TaiPower announced that Taiwan had set a new energy-saving record of 150,000 kW during Earth Hour, equivalent to 76,350 kilograms of CO2 emissions and the capacity of 6,941 20-year-old trees.

SKM Kaohsiung Sanduo Store and brand partners launched a series of sustainability events on June 8, 2023, to recognize World Oceans Day.

From June 19 to July 9, SKM co-organized a Summer Thretre Exhibition with MAGU.MAKU, presenting ocean and environmental issues to children via art.

Sustainability campaigns by SKM department stores promoting ESG
Tainan Place

SKM Tainan Place launched the Top 3 Energy-Efficient Household Appliances APP campaign in June 2023. The campaign promotes select products on the app and highlights energy-efficient products ranging from A.C. units, air purifiers, refrigerators, and electric cooking pots. It also presents information on the government's energy efficiency subsidies and commodity tax refunds. APP products received 148 clicks.

In August 2023, Tainan Place launched another APP-centered campaign—the PEANUTS Dinosaurs Adventure Eco-friendly Products campaign. The app recommends reusable, eco-friendly products, from mugs, beverage holders, shopping bags, and utensils, using the popular IP PEANUTS. APP products received 263 clicks.
Taipei Tianmu Store

SKM Taipei Tianmu Store launched the Sustainable Green Fashion campaign in April 2023 in support of Earth Day, selecting ESG-related products from eco-friendly packaging, cruelty-free, to low-power air purifiers. APP products received 458 clicks.
Kaohsiung Sanduo Store

SKM Kaohsiung Sanduo Store launched ESG-related campaign in June 2023, selecting ESG-related products from eco-friendly shopping bags, camping gear, to air purifiers. APP products received 1,658 clicks.

From May to November 2023, the Kaohsiung Sanduo Store organized local weekend parenting following marketing campaigns, Mr. William's Parent-Children Science Camp. By teaching environmental issues and practical knowledge in daily life, the camp created a unique learning experience for the participants. Six science camp events attracted 1,000 participants.
Tainan Place

From November to December 2023, SKM Tainan Place organized its 2023 Fantastic Christmas, responding to ESG trends.

The Christmas decorations used 2 tons of recycled plastic bottles, reducing 3.5 tons of CO2 emissions (2,000kg / approximately 6,7000 bottles).

The decorations used 100,000 energy-efficient bulbs, saving 307,000 kWh of electricity and reducing 196 tons of carbon emissions (using 0.5W bulbs compared to regular 5W bulbs).

During the period, the foot traffic is around 650,000 visits.
